Details of our meetings

When and Where we meet

Meetings are held monthly, usually on the third Wednesday of the month (see below for forthcoming dates). Please Note: There are no meetings in August or December.

The Queens Head PubVenue is the smaller upstairs room at The Queens Head, Wolverley, Kidderminster, DY11 5XB. There is plenty of car parking space.

The official start time is 8pm, but some arrive a little earlier. Any talks or demos would be finished by 9:30 at the latest, but the venue is open till 11pm if you wish to stay on.

Who Can Attend?

Meetings (other than the AGM *) are open to anyone who uses or listens to our repeaters, or is interested in Radio Communications, especially Repeaters, Voice-Over-IP links, Digital Voice, Data modes, Emerging Technology and VHF/UHF techniques etc.

Visitors, whether Radio Amateurs or not, are always welcome – there are no per-meeting subs to pay, and you will not be pressurised to join the group.

Our primary interest and expertise is in the world above 30MHz. However some of our members are active on HF too. So whilst we tend not to focus on HF topics, such things are not “out of bounds” for the group.

Do you want to know more about repeaters, VOIP and so on? Maybe you have stuff to show off, ideas to throw around, or equipment for sale / swap? Or maybe you’d just like to socialise and put faces to local voices? Then why not come along and meet us…

(* Sorry, the AGM is open to members only, but non-members are welcome to come in after the formal business is concluded)

What Happens At Meetings?

Other than the AGM, meetings are (at the members’ request) generally informal, with administrative matters entrusted to the committee. There is no set format, but we aim to have the occasional short talk or demonstration. This is usually on a VHF / UHF, repeater, or new technology topic, but we also look backwards from time to time. There is usually a Ham Radio Quiz night in the spring.

There is plenty of time for members to mix and socialise. The local repeater sysops are usually present to answer queries and offer advice.
